Pakistan marked the 25th anniversary of Youm-e-Takbeer on May 28, the day when it carried out nuclear tests in 1998 in reaction to India’s nuclear tests. The nuclear tests established Pakistan as the first Islamic nuclear power and ensured the balance of power in the region.
President Dr Arif Alvi commended the scientists, engineers, political and military leadership of the time for achieving this remarkable feat. In a message to the nation, he said that the nuclear capability made the country’s defense invincible and paid homage to the contributions of the eminent engineers and scientists who made it possible.
He also urged the nation to make Pakistan a stronger country by investing in the intellectual development of the people and strengthening the cyber-security to ensure the defense. He expressed his hope that with collective efforts, Pakistan’s defense would be impregnable.
The president’s message was echoed by other political and military leaders who also congratulated the nation on Youm-e-Takbeer and reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding the national security and sovereignty of Pakistan.
The nuclear tests of 1998 were a historic milestone for Pakistan and a source of pride for its people. They also sent a clear message to the world that Pakistan was a responsible nuclear state that would not compromise on its security and dignity.
Pakistan has always maintained that its nuclear program is purely for peaceful purposes and that it follows a policy of credible minimum deterrence and no first use. Pakistan has also been actively participating in various international forums and initiatives to promote nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament.
On Youm-e-Takbeer, Pakistan reaffirms its resolve to maintain peace and stability in the region and beyond, while also ensuring its own security and interests. Pakistan also renews its call for a peaceful resolution of all outstanding issues with India, including the Kashmir dispute, through dialogue and diplomacy.
Pakistan’s nuclear capability is not only a symbol of its strength but also a guarantee of its survival. It is a testament to the vision and courage of its leaders and the dedication and talent of its scientists. It is also a reminder of the sacrifices and struggles of its people who have always stood by their country in times of need.
Youm-e-Takbeer is a day to celebrate Pakistan’s achievements and potential as a nuclear power. It is also a day to reflect on Pakistan’s responsibilities and challenges as a nuclear power. It is a day to renew our pledge to make Pakistan a prosperous, progressive and peaceful country for ourselves and for future generations.
