Drafting and playing Format of Pakistan Super League:
Drafting Format:
The drafting process for the PSL involves five different categories of players: Platinum, Diamond, Gold, Silver, and Emerging. Each team has a set budget to purchase players for each category. The teams can retain up to eight players from their previous squad and can release or trade players to make changes to their squad. Once the teams have finalized their squad, the player draft begins. In the player draft, the teams take turns selecting players from the available pool of players in each category. The order of selection is decided by a random draw. The team with the lowest rank in the previous season gets the first pick in each category.
Playing Format:
The PSL follows a double round-robin format followed by playoffs. In this format, each team plays against all the other teams twice, once at home and once away. A total of 30 league matches are played in the league stage of the tournament. The top four teams in the points table at the end of the league stage qualify for the playoffs. The playoffs consist of two semi-finals, with the winners of the semi-finals facing each other in the final. The PSL also has a unique rule called the "golden ball" rule, which is used to break ties in matches that end in a draw. The rule states that a super over will be played, and the team that scores the most runs in the super over wins the match. If the super over also ends in a tie, a "golden ball" is bowled, and the team that scores the most runs off that ball wins the match. The PSL also has a player of the match award for each game, as well as awards for the leading run-scorer and leading wicket-taker of the tournament.- Islamabad United
